It is very clear in Lynchburg that Christmas is only hours away! Decorations are up, local churches are advertising their holiday services, traffic is completely and totally insane on Wards Road... The most commonly asked question I've heard in the past 10 days is "Are you ready for Christmas?" If you mean have I purchased all the gifts I intend to give, then yes I'm ready. However, I don't think that's the most important way to be ready this holiday season.
Winter holidays typically focus on giving gifts to others, cooking a ridiculous amount of food for others, and generally getting strung out by trying to do it all perfectly. I encourage you to give a gift to yourself this week. Give yourself the gift of time. Time away from others. Time to sit quietly and stop trying to be perfect. Time to truly enjoy the people you choose to surround yourself with. Time away from the people you'd rather not spend time with but feel you have to because it is what's expected.
Time is precious and you can't get it back once it's gone. Give yourself the time you need and deserve this week and attempt to make it a habit throughout the coming year. You may be surprised at how different things look when, rather than giving all your time away to others, you give yourself the precious gift of time.
